RECTOR’S REPORT TO PARISH COUNCIL – August 2014
Pastoral Services:
Since our last meeting, there has been a wedding at St George’s and, in a very small and happy ceremony on a Wednesday morning, locals, Damian and Lissette became Mr and Mrs Jeffs.
Sadly, from St George’s, we have also farewelled Cees Mandersloot and Doug Grenness. Doug has been very supportive of the church and has willingly helped out in many practical ways. The amount of work and time that he gave over the years to support Judy and the church in constructing sets and preparing for the Deb Ball cannot be overestimated. Doug will be greatly missed.
The Nathalia community farewelled Mrs Kath Pridmore, a life-long local who had been at Banawah for the past two years.
Services continue at the Nursing Homes and high care facilities.
Diocesan:
Bp John will commence a pilgrimage of prayer around the Diocese from this Advent to next Advent. He and Margaret will spend a ‘long weekend’ in each parish. It will be an opportunity for Parish Confirmations if needed, as well as a chance for people to spend time with the Bishop.
The new Dean -the Very Reverend Ken Goodger – has been installed and he and his family seem to be settling in well.
A selection conference meeting gave the opportunity to prepare for the day of interviews to be held Saturday 13 September. There are three people who are entering the selection process.
Bishop-in-Council members have toured the new extensions to St John’s Village in Wangaratta.
Under the St Columba’s banner of training for lay people, a Planning Day is being held at the Cathedral this Saturday. It’s focus is engaging worship for young people. I will be attending this day, as I may learn something applicable for our situation, but I will be VERY pleased to have some lay representation from the Parish if anyone is interested.
Clergy conference and retreat are being held at Palotti, Millgrove, from Monday to Friday 1st to 5th September 2014.
Domestic:
The heating system in the Rectory has been out of action for a week and a half and we have contacted Michael Luci who is sorting it out.
I have bought candles for the Parish which should see us through the year.
The new envelopes (larger) have come.
Signs for All Saints and St George’s still pending.
Preparations are underway for the Strawberry Festival and for the Fete.
As always, sincere thanks to everyone for contributing so tirelessly and cheerfully to the life of he parish and to the maintenance of the parish buildings.
Sally
